Dialysis Transportation to Fresenius Kidney Care Stonecrest — Lithonia, GA

    DeKalb County
    12 stations
    Private pay

8425 Mall Pkwy is a 12-station Fresenius-operated unit on the Stonecrest side of Lithonia in the 30038 ZIP. It is one of the smallest floors in this set, which usually means fewer shifts per day and less flexibility if a patient arrives late — a good reason to have the ride locked in rather than arranged the night before.

The early-shift problem nobody solves for you

Metro Atlanta dialysis centers routinely start their first shift between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM. We do not publish a first-shift time for Fresenius Kidney Care Stonecrest because we have not verified one — the clinic will give you your chair time, and we build the pickup around whatever that time is.

Here is the gap: the clinic tells you exactly when to be in the chair, and nothing at all about how to get there. Neither Fresenius Kidney Care nor any other dialysis operator in metro Atlanta publishes transportation guidance for first-shift patients. And Georgia’s Medicaid transportation broker requires three business days’ notice with a call center that does not open until 7:00 AM on weekdays — after your chair time has already come and gone.

That is the reason this page exists. You can price a real ride to FKC Stonecrest, right now, at 2 in the morning if that is when you found out you need one.

Note on cost, stated up front: pickups inside our after-hours window (7PM - 6AM) carry a $75 after-hours fee. Most first-shift dialysis pickups fall inside it. The quote below includes it automatically.

Recurring bookings: tell us the schedule once

Dialysis is not a one-off trip. Most patients at FKC Stonecrest run Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday. Give us the treatment days, the chair time and the pickup address once and we set up the recurring booking with dispatch; each pickup time is still confirmed for the day it runs.

Three visits a week averages 13 visits a month — 26 one-way rides, since the trip there and the trip home each count as a ride — and some calendar months contain 14 visits (28 rides). The vehicle-specific Dialysis 3×/Week plans are built for that schedule: 28 one-way rides (14 round trips) per billing period, with a route distance you choose — up to 5, 10 or 15 trip miles on each one-way leg with no coverage-zone fee inside that allowance. You can enroll online, and dispatch still confirms your start date and standing schedule in writing; longer routes are priced by dispatch, never online.

After treatment: what our crew actually does

Coming off dialysis is not like coming out of a routine appointment. Fluid removal leaves people hypotensive, lightheaded, cramping in the legs and hands, cold, and sometimes nauseated. A patient who walked in on their own frequently cannot walk out the same way.

    • We come to the treatment floor door, not the curb. The patient is not asked to walk out to find us.
    • Transfers are done seated in a wheelchair whenever the patient is unsteady, with two hands on the chair through doors, thresholds and elevators.
    • Slow, deliberate loading. Standing up fast after fluid removal is how people faint in parking lots.
    • Blanket on request, climate set before the patient is loaded, and no rushing someone who is cramping.
    • Door-through-door at home: to the door and, where needed, inside to a chair or bed — not dropped at the driveway.
    • If a patient looks worse than expected — unresponsive, chest pain, severe breathing difficulty — the crew calls 911 and stays. We are a non-emergency provider and we do not pretend otherwise.

    If your treatment runs late

Runs go long. Blood pressure drops, a line gets re-sited, the floor is behind. Our policy is written down instead of being improvised at the door:

    • The first 15 minutes of unplanned wait are free.
    • After that, $17.50 per 15 minutes.
    • If you know in advance you want the crew to stay on site through treatment, book a wait-and-return trip at $70 per hour of reserved wait — it is the cheaper choice for a long planned wait.

Nobody gets left because a treatment ran fifteen minutes over, and nobody gets billed for fifteen minutes either.

If you are trying the Medicaid ride first

Try it — it is free and you should use it if it works. Georgia’s non-emergency medical transportation benefit is run through a broker (Verida), and these are the real constraints:

    • Three business days’ notice is required for routine trips.
    • The call center takes calls weekdays 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM — which is after a first-shift chair time and closed on weekends.
    • Atlanta region (Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett): 404-209-4000. North Georgia region: 678-510-4555.

When that falls through — the schedule changed, the ride never arrived, the notice window was missed, or you simply are not eligible — here is what the private-pay ride costs, plainly: wheelchair van $180 base plus $9.60 per mile, stretcher van $420 base plus $13.20 per mile, BLS ambulance $450 base plus $15 per mile, with a $100 minimum on any trip.

Wheelchair and stretcher-van rides are private pay; BLS ambulance dialysis rides are billed to BCBS, UHC, Medicare and Aetna. No Medicaid. We are private pay, and we are not enrolled with the state broker. That is precisely why we can take a call at 3 AM for a ride the same morning.

Insurance and private pay. Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips — coverage depends on the plan and is not guaranteed, and we can’t confirm accepted plans or authorization rules online. Rides booked and paid for directly on this website are paid by card at booking. We are not a Georgia Medicaid NEMT provider. If you have Medicaid transportation benefits, Georgia’s broker Verida arranges those rides at no cost to you — call 404-209-4000 (Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett) or 678-510-4555 (North Georgia), at least 3 business days ahead. Heart to Heart does not bill the VA or accept VA benefits as payment. Veterans may book and pay privately. For transportation arranged or paid for by the VA, contact your VA facility’s Beneficiary Travel office before booking.

Questions about rides to FKC Stonecrest

No — we are not a Medicaid provider and do not bill Medicaid. Apart from BLS ambulance dialysis transport (billed to Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare and Aetna), rides are private pay, due at booking by card. If you have Medicaid transportation benefits, Georgia's broker Verida arranges those rides at no cost to you — call 404-209-4000 (Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett) or 678-510-4555 (North Georgia), at least 3 business days ahead.

Cancel as early as you can and the charge is smaller. Our published cancellation policy sets out the non-refundable booking fee and the tiered refund percentages by how far ahead you cancel, and it is applied as written rather than case by case.

Yes. One companion rides at no charge on wheelchair and stretcher trips; tell us at booking so the seat is there. Additional riders are handled as an add-on. On BLS ambulance trips a companion may be limited by the patient care configuration, and we will tell you at booking rather than at the door.

Yes, and we would rather they did than have a patient miss treatment. A social worker, case manager or family member can request the ride, set up the recurring schedule and receive the confirmation. There is also a printable one-page summary on this page that can be handed straight to a patient.

A recurring dialysis schedule should be set up as early as you can so the chair times are locked into our dispatch, but we are not a three-day-notice service. Same-day and next-morning requests are taken subject to vehicle availability, which matters most when a broker ride falls through the night before.

Tell us how many steps at booking. Stair counts change the crew and equipment assigned and, above a threshold, the vehicle type — a patient who cannot be safely carried in a stair chair needs a different setup. The quote tool asks for the stair count and prices it honestly rather than sending a single driver who cannot complete the pickup.

The first 15 minutes of unplanned wait are free. After that it is $17.50 per 15 minutes. We do not abandon a patient because a run went long, and we do not invent a bill for a ten-minute overrun either.

We schedule pre-dawn dialysis pickups in Decatur and select areas of Atlanta, where first shifts at some centers begin as early as 3:00 AM. We do not publish a shift time for Fresenius Kidney Care Stonecrest because we have not verified one — tell us the chair time the clinic gave you and we will build the pickup around it. Pickups in the 7PM - 6AM window carry the $75 after-hours fee.

Fresenius Kidney Care Stonecrest is at 8425 Mall Pkwy, Lithonia, GA 30038, in DeKalb County, and the federal register lists 12 stations there. The clinic's own phone number is (678) 526-1014. We confirm the address and the correct entrance with you before the first ride, because several centers in this area share a street or a building.
