Medicare & Medical Transportation: What to Know

How the Medicare benefit actually works — and what a private-pay ride with Heart2Heart costs

Insurance and private pay. Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips — coverage depends on the plan and is not guaranteed, and we can’t confirm accepted plans or authorization rules online. Rides booked and paid for directly on this website are paid by card at booking. We are not a Georgia Medicaid NEMT provider. If you have Medicaid transportation benefits, Georgia’s broker Verida arranges those rides at no cost to you — call 404-209-4000 (Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett) or 678-510-4555 (North Georgia), at least 3 business days ahead. Heart to Heart does not bill the VA or accept VA benefits as payment. Veterans may book and pay privately. For transportation arranged or paid for by the VA, contact your VA facility’s Beneficiary Travel office before booking.

    Medicare — Ambulance Dialysis Only

We Bill Medicare for Ambulance Dialysis. Here Is How It Works.

Private pay is accepted for every ride. Heart2Heart also bills Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare and Aetna for BLS ambulance transport to and from dialysis; whether Medicare pays depends on medical necessity and your coverage. We do not bill Medicaid, and wheelchair, stretcher-van and other trips are private pay, due at booking by card. This page explains how the Medicare transportation benefit works so you can decide whether to pursue it with your plan, and what your ride costs if you book directly with us.

    What's Included

    Medicare — Ambulance Dialysis Only

    Part B Is Narrow

Original Medicare Part B covers ambulance transport only when it is medically necessary and other transportation would endanger your health. Routine appointments and standing dialysis rides in a van do not meet that standard.

    Medicare — Ambulance Dialysis Only

    Advantage Plans Vary

Some Medicare Advantage plans include a limited number of trips per year through their own contracted vendor. Call the number on the back of your card to arrange those rides — they are booked through the plan, not through us.

    Medicare — Ambulance Dialysis Only

    We Do Not Submit Claims

We do not verify coverage, obtain prior authorization, or file claims with any payer. We can provide an itemized receipt you may submit yourself, with no guarantee of reimbursement.

    Transparent Private-Pay Pricing

You see the full price before you book, with a card payment at booking. No claim, no surprise balance bill.

    Trips People Commonly Ask About

Recurring dialysis (3x/week), including early-shift chair times
    Chemotherapy & radiation oncology appointments
    Wound care center visits
Hospital discharge to a skilled nursing facility or home
Bed-confined patients who need a stretcher van
    Facility-to-facility transfers

What Medicare Requires (Of Your Plan, Not Of Us)

    • The trip must be medically necessary — not simply more convenient
    • For Part B ambulance coverage, the patient generally must be bed-confined or require monitoring en route
    • Your physician's certification and your plan's prior authorization go to your plan, not to Heart2Heart
    • Transport must be to or from a facility your plan approves
    • Booking with Heart2Heart is a private-pay decision, separate from any benefit you pursue

We bill insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips, but we cannot confirm online whether a specific plan or trip is covered, and we never bill Medicaid. Rides booked and paid for directly on this website are private pay, due at booking by card.
Original Medicare does not cover routine non-emergency rides such as trips to a doctor's appointment. Part B covers ambulance transport only when it is medically necessary and other transportation would endanger your health. That is a strict standard, and it is your plan — not a transport company — that decides.
No. If your Advantage plan includes trips, they must be arranged through the plan's own vendor — call the member services number on the back of your card. Booking with us is a separate private-pay ride.
Yes, you are welcome to. We provide an itemized receipt on request. We cannot verify coverage, obtain authorization, or promise your plan will reimburse it.
