Medical Transportation in Atlanta, Georgia
Fulton and DeKalb County · 30303, 30308, 30312, 30316, 30317, 30329 · about 8.7 miles and 11 minutes from our Decatur base in typical conditions
Atlanta is the destination city more than the pickup city for us. Downtown is 8.7 miles and about 11 minutes from our Candler Road base straight in on I-20, and the bulk of our Atlanta work is one of two things: taking a DeKalb County patient to a hospital or specialist inside the city, or taking someone home from one. Two CMS-registered dialysis units carry Atlanta addresses in our data, and both are actually on the DeKalb side.
Insurance and private pay. Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips — coverage depends on the plan and is not guaranteed, and we can’t confirm accepted plans or authorization rules online. Rides booked and paid for directly on this website are paid by card at booking. We are not a Georgia Medicaid NEMT provider. If you have Medicaid transportation benefits, Georgia’s broker Verida arranges those rides at no cost to you — call 404-209-4000 (Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett) or 678-510-4555 (North Georgia), at least 3 business days ahead. Heart to Heart does not bill the VA or accept VA benefits as payment. Veterans may book and pay privately. For transportation arranged or paid for by the VA, contact your VA facility’s Beneficiary Travel office before booking.
Dialysis centers we serve in Atlanta
Addresses and station counts below come from the federal dialysis facility register.
2886 Memorial Dr SE, Atlanta 30317 · 21 stations
2220 North Druid Hills Road NE, Atlanta 30329 · 12 stations
Two "Atlanta" dialysis units that are really DeKalb addresses
Fresenius Kidney Care Candler Road is at 2886 Memorial Dr SE in the 30317 ZIP — a Kirkwood address, not Candler Road, with 21 stations. The dialysis unit at Arthur M. Blank Hospital is at 2220 North Druid Hills Road NE in 30329, 12 stations, in the North Druid Hills corridor.
Both are short runs from our base. Both are also examples of why we publish street addresses rather than city names on every clinic page: an Atlanta postal address does not mean an in-town location, and a wrong assumption on a dialysis morning costs a session.
Hospital discharges are the largest category
Grady Memorial, Emory University Hospital Midtown, the Clifton Road Emory campus and Piedmont Atlanta generate our steadiest Atlanta volume, and it is nearly all outbound: a patient who arrived by ambulance or by family car and now needs a wheelchair van or a stretcher to get home to Decatur, Lithonia, East Point or further.
The hard part is never the drive. It is that discharge times move. Give us the floor, the nurse’s callback number and a realistic window, and we schedule off the actual release rather than the optimistic estimate.
Downtown access, decks and where a stretcher can actually load
In-town loading is a different problem from suburban loading. Hospital patient-pickup zones have height limits, timed enforcement and construction detours; residential high-rises need a loading dock or a service lift, and a service lift usually needs to be booked with the building.
Tell us the building and the entrance you have been told to use. For high-rise addresses, tell us whether the freight elevator needs a concierge. These two details decide whether an in-town stretcher pickup takes twenty minutes or an hour.
Pricing does not change because the address is in town
Base fare plus measured driving mileage, the same published trip minimum, the same after-hours window, the same wait rules. There is no downtown surcharge and no separate rate card for city addresses.
We are an independent transportation company, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or contracted to Grady, Emory, Piedmont or any other system named here. Service is private pay: no insurance billing except ambulance dialysis (BCBS, UHC, Medicare, Aetna), no Medicaid brokerage.
