Heart2Heart
Wheelchair Van Transport
Door-through-door wheelchair van transport for non-ambulatory patients across Decatur, Atlanta and DeKalb County — hydraulic lift, secured ride, and pricing you can see before you book.
For patients who can sit but shouldn't have to transfer to a car
Heart2Heart runs wheelchair van transport out of our Decatur base for patients who are non-ambulatory but able to sit upright and do not need continuous medical monitoring in transit. The chair rolls straight up a hydraulic lift or ramp, gets locked into a 4-point securement system, and you ride the rest of the way belted in — no lift into a car seat, no folding a chair into a trunk.

How a wheelchair van trip works in Decatur and metro Atlanta
Most of our wheelchair van calls originate from a home, a nursing facility, or a dialysis center somewhere in DeKalb County — Decatur, Stone Mountain, Tucker, Kirkwood, and East Atlanta are our most common pickup areas — with drop-offs at hospitals and clinics across the Atlanta metro. Dispatch confirms your pickup address, destination, and chair type before the van is dispatched, so the crew arrives with the right ramp angle and tie-down hardware already staged.
On arrival, the crew comes inside, helps you into position at the doorway if needed, and rolls your chair up the ramp or lift. Once inside the van, your wheelchair is locked to the floor with a 4-point tie-down and you're secured with a lap and shoulder belt for the ride — the same securement standard used for any wheelchair-accessible vehicle, not an improvised strap job. At the destination, the crew reverses the process and walks you all the way to the door, whether that's a clinic waiting room or your own front hallway.
A short flight of stairs at a Decatur bungalow or an older DeKalb County home is common, and our crew can often manage it with the stair-assistance add-on — but tell dispatch the stair count when you book so we send the right crew size. A wheelchair van is the right choice when you're non-ambulatory but medically stable and able to sit upright for the whole ride. It is not the right vehicle if the patient cannot sit up or must stay flat — that's a job for our stretcher van. And if the rider needs basic life support or oxygen en route (EMT crew, BLS only — no IV medications), that calls for our BLS ambulance service instead of a wheelchair van. If you're not sure which vehicle fits, our vehicle comparison page walks through the differences, or you can call dispatch and describe the patient's condition — we'll tell you honestly which vehicle is appropriate rather than sending the wrong one.
Wheelchair van transport at Heart2Heart is private pay. Rides booked online are paid by card at booking; call before booking to ask about any other arrangement. We do not bill Medicaid or the VA. Riding on a regular schedule? Consider a membership
Riders who need wheelchair transportation for recurring appointments can plan the month in advance. Each plan sets the vehicle, the number of one-way rides included each month, and the miles included on each leg. Extra miles, waiting beyond the included grace period, and rides past the monthly allowance are billed separately. A one-time $99 activation fee applies when you enroll. Memberships are private pay; they are not insurance and do not reserve a vehicle for a specific pickup time.
