    Stretcher Transport FAQ

Yes. Request a one-way ride or both legs of a round trip. Tell dispatch the appointment check-in time, pickup and destination, mobility needs, and whether a return is needed. Each leg and pickup time must be confirmed; a request is not a confirmed booking.
Discuss a scheduled or will-call return with dispatch before the appointment. When the patient is ready, call (678) 696-1583 to coordinate pickup. A will-call return does not mean a vehicle is waiting outside or guarantee immediate pickup. Waiting and any changes are subject to the quoted terms and dispatch confirmation.
Ask dispatch about recurring doctor, specialist, therapy or dialysis appointment rides. Confirm each pickup and destination, dates, vehicle needs and return arrangements. Vehicle-specific memberships have published one-way ride allowances and mileage limits; a round trip uses two rides. Membership does not guarantee a particular pickup time or vehicle availability.
Private pay is accepted. Wheelchair and stretcher van rides and routine doctor or specialist appointment rides are private pay. Insurance billing is limited to ambulance dialysis with BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare and Aetna, subject to eligibility and verification; coverage and payment are not guaranteed. Heart2Heart does not bill the VA or accept VA benefits.
Serving Decatur and select areas of Atlanta. Contact dispatch at (678) 696-1583 to confirm service at your pickup and destination. Heart2Heart operates 24 hours, but availability, the appropriate vehicle and pickup timing require dispatch confirmation. This is non-emergency transportation; for a medical emergency call 911.
You can request a ride for any day or time. Each trip is scheduled and confirmed by dispatch based on availability, and pickups between 7 PM and 6 AM add an after-hours fee. We are not 911 — for an emergency, call 911.
Stretcher van rides, including dialysis rides, are private pay. Insurance billing is limited to ambulance dialysis with BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare and Aetna, subject to eligibility and verification. Coverage and payment are not guaranteed.
Yes. A stretcher van carries a stable patient lying flat who does not need medical care on the way. A BLS ambulance is for patients who need an EMT crew and basic life support equipment during the trip, with a separate vehicle-specific quote. Neither is 911 emergency response. Compare them on our vehicle comparison page.
Stretcher vans carry a secured stretcher, restraints and climate control. They do not provide medical monitoring during the ride — if the patient needs care on the way, book a BLS ambulance.
No. A stretcher van is for stable patients who need to lie flat. Patients who need an EMT crew and basic life support during the trip should book a BLS ambulance.

Riders who need stretcher transportation repeatedly each month can plan around a fixed monthly allowance. Each plan sets the vehicle, the number of one-way rides included each month, and the miles included on each leg. Extra miles, waiting beyond the included grace period, and rides past the monthly allowance are billed separately. A one-time $99 activation fee applies when you enroll. Memberships are private pay; they are not insurance and do not reserve a vehicle for a specific pickup time.
