    Heart2Heart

    Coverage & Private Pay

How transportation benefits work, and what a ride with Heart2Heart costs.

Insurance and private pay. Heart2Heart bills insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips — coverage depends on the plan and is not guaranteed, and we can’t confirm accepted plans or authorization rules online. Rides booked and paid for directly on this website are paid by card at booking. We are not a Georgia Medicaid NEMT provider. If you have Medicaid transportation benefits, Georgia’s broker Verida arranges those rides at no cost to you — call 404-209-4000 (Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett) or 678-510-4555 (North Georgia), at least 3 business days ahead. Heart to Heart does not bill the VA or accept VA benefits as payment. Veterans may book and pay privately. For transportation arranged or paid for by the VA, contact your VA facility’s Beneficiary Travel office before booking.

Trips we can bill insurance for:

    • Ambulance (BLS) dialysis transportation — when medically necessary and documented

    What we do not bill:

    • Georgia Medicaid NEMT and Medicaid managed-care transportation benefits — those rides are arranged by the state broker
    • VA benefits and VA transportation programs — veterans may book and pay privately
    • Any trip we have not reviewed for medical necessity and documentation
    • Rides you book and pay for directly on this website — those are card at booking

Billing a plan is not the same as the plan paying. Coverage depends on the patient’s plan and medical necessity, and we can’t confirm accepted plans, network status or authorization rules online — call us with the trip details and we’ll tell you how it would be handled. Rides you book and pay for here are card at booking, and you get an itemized receipt you can submit to your plan. See how payment works and payment plans & financing.

If you have a transportation benefit, use it first

It is your benefit and it costs you nothing. Georgia Medicaid rides are arranged by the state’s broker, Verida, which requires at least three business days’ notice and takes calls weekdays 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Medicare Advantage and commercial plan benefits are arranged by the broker named on the back of your insurance card.

When that route cannot deliver — the notice window was missed, the schedule changed, the ride never came, or your chair time is before the call center opens — Heart2Heart is here as a private-pay option, with the price shown before you book.

    Straight answers about coverage

    • Do you take Medicaid?

No — Heart2Heart is not a Georgia Medicaid NEMT provider and we do not bill Medicaid. We do bill insurance for medically necessary transports such as dialysis, wound care and emergency-department related trips, though coverage always depends on the plan and is not guaranteed. Rides booked and paid for directly on this website are paid by card at booking. If you have Medicaid transportation benefits, Georgia's broker Verida arranges those rides at no cost to you — call 404-209-4000 (Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett) or 678-510-4555 (North Georgia), at least 3 business days ahead.

    • Does Heart to Heart bill the VA or accept VA transportation benefits?

Heart to Heart does not bill the VA or accept VA benefits as payment. Veterans may book and pay privately. For transportation arranged or paid for by the VA, contact your VA facility’s Beneficiary Travel office before booking.

    • Does insurance cover my medical transport with Heart2Heart?

No. Heart2Heart does not bill Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medigap, or commercial insurance for any trip — dialysis included. Every ride booked with us is private pay, due at booking by card. We can provide an itemized receipt you may submit to your plan yourself; we cannot promise reimbursement.

    • Does Medicare cover non-emergency medical transportation?

Original Medicare Part B covers ambulance transport only when it is medically necessary and other transportation would endanger your health — a strict standard that routine appointments and standing dialysis rides in a van do not meet. Some Medicare Advantage plans include a limited number of trips through their own contracted vendor. That is a decision your plan makes, and those rides are arranged through the plan, not through us.

    • I have a Medicare Advantage or Medicaid transportation benefit — can Heart2Heart use it?

No. Those benefits are administered by your plan's own broker. For Medicare Advantage or commercial plans, call the member services number on the back of your insurance card. For Georgia Medicaid, the state's broker is Verida: 404-209-4000 (Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett) or 678-510-4555 (North Georgia), at least 3 business days ahead. Those rides are at no cost to you, and you should use them if they work for your schedule.

    • Why book privately if a benefit exists?

Because brokered rides need three business days of notice, the call center takes calls weekdays 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM only, and same-day or early-morning chair times often fall outside what they can deliver. Booking privately means you pick the pickup time, including a 3 AM first-shift run, and you know the price before you confirm.

    • What does a private-pay ride cost?

Wheelchair van $180 base plus $10 per mile; stretcher van $420 base plus $13 per mile; BLS ambulance $450 base plus $15 per mile, with a $100 minimum on any trip. Use the trip calculator for your exact addresses.

    • Can I spread the cost out?

Yes. We accept credit and debit cards and Heart2Heart gift cards, and offer CareCredit, Klarna, Afterpay and Affirm on the payment plans page. Financing changes how you pay, not what is refundable.
